Dassault’s Leading Global VAR, TECHNIA, Expands Life Sciences With American Workflow Informatics’ BIOVIA Business

PHARMACEUTICAL, BIOTECH and related APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT IN FOCUS. PLM consultant TECHNIA–Dassault Systemes’ largest global VAR–announces the acquisition of Workflow Informatics' BIOVIA-related business. The latter is an American company specializing in scientific informatics in general and Dassault Système's BIOVIA solution in particular. Workflow Informatics has a wide range of services, including data modeling and integration, application development and support, on the agenda. The company's goal is to provide world-class informatics research consulting to companies of all sizes and contribute to improving research data practices.
With the announced purchase, TECHNIA CEO Magnus Falkman and his team generally strengthen the Life Sciences side of the business, specifically for the company's North American operations, above all in relation to the customer base that comes with the purchase.
TECHNIA generally has a fairly extensive involvement in the Life Sciences (LS) area with a dedicated, global team of more than 50 experts, and it is about a team that can make a difference in this incredibly regulated and intricate field. The focus of the LS team is to make product creation sustainable within this industry segment by turning regulatory complexity into a competitive advantage. Domain-specific knowledge, best practices and industry solutions are crucial in this, but also access to sharp software as operational support. In this, Dassault Systeme's BIOVIA software is a capable instrument with good capabilities to constitute sharp product development and management support.
Dassault's BIOVIA suite provides a collaborative scientific environment for advanced biological, chemical and materials development activities. It's about sophisticated solutions that sharpen innovation and help organizations discover and create new products and materials. BIOVIA Discovery Studio is an example of this, the program is used for molecular modelling, simulation and data analysis in LS, material science and chemistry. It supports research and development by providing tools for drug discovery, materials engineering and predictive modeling. As TECHNIA today is Dassault's largest global VAR partner within PLM in this role it can offer comprehensive solutions to improve operations from research to production. The company has extensive experience with BIOVIA products such as Pipeline Pilot, ScienceCloud, CISPro and Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN), and is committed to providing software, services, training and support while strengthening its local presence for both new and existing customers in North America.
"We have assembled an exceptional life science team, excited to collaborate with our existing and new customers. By offering comprehensive and holistic advice and support for the BIOVIA portfolio, we aim to deliver even more value to our customers in North America and all over the world," says TECHNIA CEO Magnus Falkman in a comment.

Informatics is a fairly broad term but generally deals with the representation, processing and communication of information in natural and engineered systems. In this area, Workflow Informatics, based in North Carolina, specializes in scientific informatics. The company offers a wide range of services, including data modeling and integration, application development and support.

In terms of size, there are around 10 employees, which means that the purchase does not belong to one of TECHNIAS’ larger acquisitions, but nevertheless factors such as competence and customer base are important in this context. The company was founded in December 2013 by Chris Lowden, who has over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and software industries and holds a PhD in medicinal chemistry from UNC Chapel Hill, which speaks volumes about the company’s focus.

TECHNIA’s CEO with responsibility for the UK and North America, Michael Hurst, says in a comment that the company’s North American and wider TECHNIA team is well positioned to serve customers with specific scientific solutions around BIOVIA:

”We look forward to supporting our new customers in their continued innovation journey. We are driven in this by our mission to help deliver smarter products faster. Not least, our deep competence around broader virtual twin technologies can help in the customers’ digitization ambitions.”

BIOVIA Pipeline Pilot: Operationalize data-driven and AI-based workflows
We will also say a few words about some of the modules of the BIOVIA suite, which were mentioned in the preamble:

The BIOVIA Pipeline Pilot is about optimizing research informatics workflows through software development and configuration, which facilitates drug discovery. This is achieved through standardized digital aut omation, application integration and custom data management solutions.

The background is that many scientific and engineering-based organizations still struggle to effectively use the information at their disposal. In this context, development teams often use various tools and processes to access data, clean it, model and deliver results, but these results often lack the domain depth needed to drive innovation. To take full advantage of the potential data science findings, organizations need a holistic view of leveraging their data across the science and engineering enterprise.

By leveraging BIOVIA Pipeline Pilot and its collections, users create data pipelines, or protocols in Pipeline Pilot, to deliver integrated, data-driven solutions and potential combinations with other BIOVIA applications to extend the out-of-the-box capabilities.

Workflow informatics has here developed deep technical expertise in the areas of computational chemistry, chemical informatics, medicinal chemistry and scientific computing.

Science Cloud: Collaborate and share data in the same virtual environment
Academic organizations are overwhelmingly embracing the cloud to lower their total cost of ownership and gain IT flexibility and agility. BIOVIA ScienceCloud is a scalable cloud solution that supports collaboration across research, development and quality control. It provides a secure, unified environment for informatics solutions from BIOVIA. The cloud enables organizations to quickly and easily create a robust collaborative workspace with minimal IT support. The system is available anywhere, anytime – and you only pay for what you need to use.

BIOVIA CISPro, is a chemical inventory management system with a focus on logistics, compliance and safety. Enables labs to effectively track and manage their inventory, including details such as quantity, location and expiration date. The integration of bar coding simplifies the entire inventory process.

BIOVIA Notebook is an easy-to-use and easy-to-use ELN for organizations focused on data collection, intellectual property rights, information sharing, process documentation, and overall lower total cost of ownership.
