”Operation DIGIMAT” – A Milestone as the Norwegian Armed Forces Digitize Material Data Management with ShareAspace…

…developed by BAE Systems Intelligence owned Eurostep.
Launched in May, DIGIMAT marks a pivotal milestone as the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) modernizes material data management. Powered by ShareAspace—a sophisticated cloud platform engineered by BAE Systems-owned Eurostep—the new digital infrastructure promises to revolutionize how defense supply chain logistics are governed, securing unprecedented operational readiness.
The Swedish-developed ShareAspace software plays a foundational role in DIGIMAT. Originally designed by Eurostep—which became a strategic asset of BAE Systems Digital Intelligence in 2023—the platform has been heralded in the industry press as a highly secure, cloud-based solution.
Its primary mandate is to overhaul and modernize the lifecycle management of materiel data, streamlining how critical information is collected, validated, and continuously managed throughout the entirety of the Norwegian defense supply chain. By leveraging the robust capabilities of ShareAspace, this launch represents a monumental step forward in the NDMA's long-term corporate vision for the digital transformation of defense logistics.
"DIGIMAT is far more than a standard platform; it is a vital strategic enabler for collaboration, mission-critical decisions, and operational readiness," notes Dag Øyvind Hagen, Deputy Director at the NDMA. "Our expectations are definitive: we require a unified, reliable flow of materiel data. By simplifying supplier interactions and establishing a single source of truth, we are laying the foundation for faster, smarter, and more robust logistics."
At its core, DIGIMAT delivers a secure environment for complex collaboration between the NDMA and its supplier network. Powered by Eurostep’s ShareAspace—a proven, Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) platform for standards-based data sharing—the solution ensures granular control over sensitive, export-controlled information while guaranteeing seamless access for authorized stakeholders.
ShareAspace transforms data management by acting as a secure, vendor-neutral collaboration layer. It harmonizes fragmented supplier data, enforces strict regulatory compliance, and protects intellectual property (IP)—all without disrupting existing legacy PDM, PLM, or ERP environments.
The platform sharply distinguishes itself in material and product data management through several cornerstone capabilities, including standards-based interoperability (ISO, STEP AP242, and PLCS), automated data validation, and end-to-end traceability.
Simon Pettersson, Defence Industry Vertical Director at Eurostep, says in a comment:
“ShareAspace has been a key enabler for DIGIMAT. It allows maintaining control over critical information while facilitating secure collaboration across complex supply chains in the defense sector.”

Securing the Frontline: The Evolution of DIGIMAT
Reflecting on the path ahead for DIGIMAT, Dag Øyvind Hagen outlines a definitive vision: ”Our future objective is to continuously develop DIGIMAT into a cornerstone capability. One that ensures the Norwegian Armed Forces remain fully equipped, prepared, and ready to meet the demands of an increasingly complex security environment.”
This mindset is undeniable in its relevance and strategic soundness. Across Europe, defense budgets are surging, triggering a massive influx of new projects for the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA). Against this backdrop, the agency faces intensifying pressure from suppliers for reliable, consistent, and up-to-date equipment data. Currently, this critical information is often scattered across multiple channels and processed manually—a fragmented approach that breeds inefficiency, introduces errors, and compromises operational readiness.

A Secure Supplier Portal
DIGIMAT solves these challenges by introducing a unified, secure supplier portal that standardizes how material data is shared with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA). This establishes a single source of truth, creating a highly streamlined and controlled workflow across the entire supply chain. Developed through a collaborative, iterative process, DIGIMAT empowers both the NDMA and its partners to work with highly accurate, easily accessible data. Ultimately, this drives faster maintenance cycles, enhanced spare parts planning, and unparalleled transparency in equipment lifecycle management across the Norwegian Armed Forces.

”A Significant Leap Forward”
Managing over 200 heavy procurement projects and backed by a team of 1,700 highly skilled personnel, the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) is the nation’s largest public investor in defense materiel and technology. Charged with the procurement, management, and phase-out of military equipment, the agency currently oversees more than 450 active contracts.
In this complex ecosystem, DIGIMAT represents a major leap forward for the NDMA’s mission to equip Norway’s armed forces with reliable, modern, and optimally supported assets. As the platform continues to evolve, it will play a pivotal role in helping Norway navigate and meet the demands of an ever-changing security landscape.

ShareAspace: A Neutral Information Bridge
At its core, the solution is driven by ShareAspace, a software developed by Eurostep. Founded in Sweden in 1994, the company became a proud part of BAE Systems Digital Intelligence in 2023. They deliver their flagship software as a robust, battle-tested Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) platform. It shatters information silos, enabling the seamless and secure sharing of product lifecycle data across companies, contracts, and supply chains.
Built upon three decades of specialized expertise in standardized interoperability, ShareAspace acts as a neutral data repository. It consolidates and integrates both product and asset data seamlessly across the entire lifecycle. By maintaining stringent access controls, strict traceability, and flawless version tracking of configuration changes, it guarantees highly reliable collaboration between entirely separate organizations.
Available both on-premises and in the cloud, the ShareAspace suite is in a state of continuous evolution. It is engineered to meet the growing complexities of enterprise asset management and large-scale, multi-national collaboration.
