IFS Acquires AI Developer TheLoops to Create the First Agent Platform That, “Does The Work Instead Of Just Tracking The Work”

Business systems developer IFS is continuing its push into industrial AI. In addition to its previous efforts, as reported in several articles by PLM&ERP News, it is today announcing the acquisition of TheLoops, an innovator in autonomous AI agent technology.
Once again, the move signals the importance of agent-based AI. By acquiring TheLoops’ agent capabilities for the industrial environment, IFS claims to be the first vendor to offer an AI Agentic platform built specifically for the mission-critical assets and processes that industries depend on.
The point of agentic AI in general is that the concept is based on autonomous agents that can make decisions and act independently to achieve specific goals, with limited human supervision. In this, agentic AI is the framework, while the agents are the building blocks designed to understand context, adapt to changing situations and perform tasks without constant human intervention. Essentially, agentic AI goes beyond simple automation by enabling AI systems to handle administration similar to a human employee.
IFS CEO, Mark Moffat, says in a comment that the acquisition of TheLoops marks a shift from enterprise software that tracks work to software that does the work. It is, he says, the first enterprise-class AI agent platform designed to deliver resilience, productivity and measurable ROI – not as a co-pilot, but as a collaborator – while keeping security and governance in check from day one.
“The opportunity that AI brings to mission-critical industries is enormous, but must be structured around real value creation. The agent capabilities that TheLoops offers our customers will enable them to transform their processes, their operational efficiency and how they differentiate themselves in the service opportunities they offer their customers,” he says, adding:
“Our customers can benefit from intelligent digital team members who understand their business from day one, agents who speak their industrial language, follow their rules and work securely in their workflows. With TheLoops, we provide a platform that makes industrial AI agent-based, actionable and accessible – at scale. In this, IFS extends its leadership in industrial AI.”
The acquisition also gets a thumbs up from heavy analysts. IDC’s Aly Pinder, VP of Aftermarket Services Strategies, statess:
“IFS’ acquisition of TheLoops addresses a huge opportunity for asset-intensive and service-intensive industries, where agent-driven decision-making will enable organizations to rethink their digital workforce, so they can improve how they serve their own customers.”

In the press release, IFS claims that the acquisition of TheLoops “turbocharges” the IFS solution, delivering a multi-agent environment where autonomous AI agents are not only composable and controlled, but also semantically aware of their operating environment. By integrating these AI agents into its industrial suite, IFS is creating a digital workforce purpose-built for regulated, asset-intensive sectors.

Agents with Broad Capabilities
Combining TheLoops AI Agent Platform with IFS industry expertise creates agents that:

  • Understand the semantics of an industry and business
  • Participate in real-world enterprise workflows alongside humans
  • Adhere to customer-defined security, data access and compliance standards
  • Collaborate with specialized agents across integrated domains

Adding these points together, it’s clear that a new era of automation, where intelligent agents continuously search, reason and act to streamline operations, is helping to increase capacity and free up skilled workers for higher-value tasks. It goes beyond traditional AI pattern recognition and prediction to enable truly autonomous decision-making and execution.

TheLoops CEO Somya Kapoor says his company has always made it its mission to deliver AI that drives action, not just insight.
“By joining forces with IFS, we are taking that vision to a whole new level. Together, we are delivering autonomous AI agents that understand the true complexity of industrial environments – what work needs to be done, how to do it, and how to do it safely, ethically, and at scale. This is not experimental; it is transformational. I is incredibly excited to be able to offer this innovation to customers around the world,” adds Kapoor.

“A Huge Opportunity for Aasset-Intensive Businesses”
IDC analyst Aly Pinder agrees, pointing out in a statement that AI is now radically changing the world:
“Absolutely, but nowhere is the potential impact more pronounced than in the industrial environment. IFS’s acquisition of TheLoops addresses a huge opportunity for asset-intensive and service-intensive industries, where agent-driven decision-making will enable organizations to rethink their digital workforce, so they can improve how they serve their own customers. IFS is well-positioned to lead this shift in each of the industries we serve – delivering intelligent automation that is not only smart, but also situational aware and operationally efficient.”
