When the analyst recently presented its MarketScape 2024-2025 Worldwide Manufacturing Execution System, with the most important systems on the market, Siemens tops the Leaders “wave” ahead of Critical Manufacturing and AVEVA. While Rockwell, Dassault Systemes, Infor and SAP, among others, fall a bit behind, even though they are still positioned within the leadership area.
That Siemens Digital Industries Software's Opcenter platform ends up as a clear leader is not surprising. Certainly, many players feel called, but few are selected for the absolute MES top in IDC's evaluation. An outstanding Siemens strength is about the combination of capabilities that spans the entire product realization field; including the product development (PLM) and manufacturing automation areas with the market's broadest, most functionally rich and well-integrated software set in the Xcelerator portfolio.
The seamless connection and integration with PLM and the product development side can be seen as a key. Of course, MES solutions themselves are a fundamental aspect of a successful manufacturing setup. Not least because the primary purpose of the domain is to track and document the transformation of raw materials into finished products in real time. A capable MES system should be able to capture data from various sources, such as machines, sensors and operators, to provide accurate and up-to-date information about the status of production activities. But MES is not alone in this; the increasing impact of digitalization and AI solutions in product realization is strengthening the ties to PLM and product development. This means that to effectively coordinate against changing value chains, seamless integrations with transparent, well-connected applications are needed. Strong Q4 Saved Decent Full-Year 2024 Growth for Dassault Systemes – Despite the Challenging...
“…but the new 3D UNIV+RSES concept will take us into A NEW ERA,” says DS CEO PASCAL DALOZ. Largely thanks to a strong fourth quarter of 2024, one of the leading PLM developers, Dassault Systemes, was able to close the books for the full year 2024 with decent growth, given the challenging global economic conditions. On the revenue side, the company landed at a total of €6.21 billion, which meant growth of almost 5% compared to 2023. It is also notable that software revenues drove growth upward for the full year with an increase of 6% to €5.61 billion; a growth that during Q4 2024 maintained an increase rate of as much as 9%.
Dassault CEO Pascal Daloz characterized the still preliminary results for the full year 2024 as a "competitive success" and pointed out in particular a number of important extensions and also expansions of large key contracts, not least in the automotive, aerospace and medical technology industries, as important driving forces. The DS chief said that the company's 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX) platform is the cornerstone behind this:
"Yes, 2024 has been a year of competitive success, driven by the expansion of 3DEXPERIENCE not only in the major key industries, but also across domains and geographies. In this, we see the redefinition of our strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as Volkswagen, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, global consultants such as Mahindra & Mahindra, and medical technology companies such as Bristol-Myers Squibb."
He further noted that the key to these successes lies in the relevance of the 3DX platform, which he claimed, "combines deep industry knowledge and know-how to help customers improve their value propositions and empower their teams. This will nurture our future growth and lay the foundation for broad adoption of the cloud."
Daloz added that Dassault is entering a new era in 2025 based on strong technological development:
“Yes, we are fully committed to creating 3D UNIV+RSES, which is a combination of virtual twins, integrating artificial intelligence to connect the virtual and real physical reality, across all industry solutions. This will unlock new opportunities for our customers and position us as the trusted global IP generation and management company.”
In terms of software revenue by product line, the Industrial Innovation segment saw a 5% increase to €3.02 billion, representing 54% of software revenue. DELMIA (DM/digital manufacturing management), ENOVIA (cPDm/collaborative Product Definition management) and SIMULIA (CAE/simulation and analysis) showed the strongest growth figures.

”3DEXPERIENCE-plattformen och nya 3D UNIV+RSES-konceptet TAR OSS IN I EN NY ERA,” säger DS-chefen PASCAL DALOZ. Mycket tack vare ett starkt fjärdekvartal 2024 kunde en av de ledande PLM-utvecklarna, Dassault Systemes, stänga böckerna för helåret 2024 med en, givet den utmanande globala konjunkturen, hygglig tillväxt. På intäktssidan landade bolaget på totalt 6,21 miljarder euro, motsvarande nära 71 miljarder kronor, vilket innebar en tillväxt på närmare 5 procent jämfört med helåret 2023. Notabelt är också att mjukvaruintäkterna drog tillväxten uppåt för helåret med en ökning på 6 procent till 5,61 miljarder euro; en tillväxt som under Q4 2024 höll en ökningstakt på hela 9 procent.
Dassault-chefen, Pascal Daloz, karaktäriserade det ännu preliminära resultatet för helåret 2024 som en ”konkurrenskraftig framgång” och pekade då framför allt ut ett antal viktiga förlängningar och även utökningar av stora nyckelkontrakt, inte minst då inom automotive-, flyg- och medicinteknik-industrier som viktiga drivkrafter i utvecklingen under året. DS-basen menade att bolagets 3DEXPERIENCE-plattform är grundpelare och drivande kraft i i detta:
"Ja, 2024 har varit ett år av framgång avseende konkurrenskraft, drivet av expansionen av 3DEXPERIENCE och då inte bara i de stora nyckelbranscherna, utan också sett över domäner och geografier. Han konstaterade vidare att nyckeln till dessa framgångar ligger i relevansen av 3DEXPERIENCE, som han hävdade, ”kombinerar djup branschkunskap och know-how för att hjälpa kunder att förbättra sina värdeerbjudanden och stärka sina team. Detta kommer att vårda vår framtida tillväxt och lägga grunden för bred användning av molnet.”

Dassault-chefen, Pascal Daloz, karaktäriserade det ännu preliminära resultatet för helåret 2024 som en ”konkurrenskraftig framgång” och pekade då framför allt ut ett antal viktiga förlängningar och även utökningar av stora nyckelkontrakt, inte minst då inom automotive-, flyg- och medicinteknik-industrier som viktiga drivkrafter i utvecklingen under året. DS-basen menade att bolagets 3DEXPERIENCE-plattform är grundpelare och drivande kraft i i detta:
"Ja, 2024 har varit ett år av framgång avseende konkurrenskraft, drivet av expansionen av 3DEXPERIENCE och då inte bara i de stora nyckelbranscherna, utan också sett över domäner och geografier. I detta ser vi omdefinieringar av våra strategiska partnerskap med industriledare som Volkswagen, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, globalt verksamma konsulter som Mahindra & Mahindra och medicinteknikföretag som Bristol-Myers Squibb,”
Han konstaterade vidare att nyckeln till dessa framgångar ligger i relevansen av 3DEXPERIENCE, som han hävdade, ”kombinerar djup branschkunskap och know-how för att hjälpa kunder att förbättra sina värdeerbjudanden och stärka sina team. Detta kommer att vårda vår framtida tillväxt och lägga grunden för bred användning av molnet.”
Daloz sa också att Dassault går in i en ny era 2025 baserat på en stark teknologiutveckling:
”Ja, vi är fullt engagerade i att skapa UNIV+RSES, vilket är en kombination av virtuella tvillingar, som integrerar artificiell intelligens för att koppla ihop den virtuella och reala fysiska verkligheten, över alla branschlösningar. Detta kommer att låsa upp nya möjligheter för våra kunder och positionera oss som det pålitliga globala IP-genererings- och förvaltningsbolaget."
Sett till programvaruintäkter per produktlinje stod Industrial Innovation-segmentet för en 5-procentig ökning till 3,02 miljarder euro och representerade 54 % av mjukvaruintäkterna. DELMIA (DM/digital tillverkningshantering), ENOVIA (cPDm/collaborative Product Definition management) och SIMULIA (CAE/simulering och analys) uppvisade de starkaste tillväxtsiffrorna.

Multi-Million PLM Bet by Nordic Mining Giant LKAB:”MORE BANG for the BUCK with SaaS-Based...
AN INDUSTRY BREAKTHROUGH order for Siemens SaaS PLM suite TEAMCENTER X - MEET LKAB's transformation leader, ROBERT YLITALO, in today's in-depth interview. PLM&ERP News can today reveal that international mining and minerals group, LKAB, is making a major investment in PLM for construction and plant data. The company has ambitious plans and will transform IT support in a three-year project from having had most of the software installed locally - on premise - to infrastructure and software in the cloud to ramp up management and processes in a dynamic time for the mining industry; not least because the demands for greener processes are at the center.
By primarily investing in SIEMENS Digital Industries Software's SaaS and cloud-based PLM suite Teamcenter X, the company plans to bet heavily in a project called KODA–which includes Teamcenter X–over a three-year period.
Initially, about 100 users in an implementation team are covered, which will be gradually expanded to encompass the entire group and subcontractors with around 3,000 users. A substantial order taken in tough competition with Dassault Systemes, which for Siemens means an important breakthrough for the company's SaaS PLM in the Nordic mining and steel sector.
Spearheading LKAB's PLM initiative is Robert Ylitalo. He is a colorful leader, sharp in his art of formulation, and equipped with a strong industrial background, including as VP in the Swedish operation of global consultant CGI, SO/CEO of Gällivare Näringslivs AB, and senior AI advisor at Luleå University of Technology.
But he has a demanding deadline ahead of him, with the mining and steel industry's goal of reducing its environmental impact–LKAB’s goal is net-zero CO2 emission by 2045–while at the same time the financial margins and production targets must be met to be able to develop the business and finance the investments. Four examples on the top of his agenda:
• Reemap in Luleå, Sweden: An $80 million industry park project where technology for recycling mining waste is being developed, with the ambition to also produce input goods, including hydrogen, and electrify the processes to eliminate CO2 emissions in this.
• Hybrit, or MD1 as it is now called: A full-scale demo plant for producing fossil-free sponge iron.
• Plus the efforts related to investigating the new iron ore mine Per Geijer in Kiruna, Sweden, with the commercially interesting question of whether rare earth metals and phosphorus can be extracted there in addition to iron ore.
• Add to this the bread and butter of the operation: The production of 100,000 tons of pellets, every day.
“All of this is connected,” says Ylitalo. “New and old plants require a unified information picture for efficiency. With KODA, we are strengthening our digital infrastructure with an emphasis on plant information. We started with the design side and mechanical and electrical plant information and looked at which systems could support us in this. With Teamcenter X and the cloud solution, we get more PLM bang for our buck."

”PASSING A MILESTONE”: SAP Aims to Accelerate Cloud Migration for IBM Customers with New...
ERP/FROM ON PREMISE to SAP S/4HANA CLOUD IN 90 DAYS. Business systems developer SAP and big time consultant IBM today announced that the upcoming release of RISE with SAP on IBM Power Virtual Server will be the fastest and easiest way for IBM Power customers to accelerate their ERP migration to the cloud. The aim is to inspire organizations to seamlessly transition and modernize their on-premises ERP environments to the cloud and support AI-driven business processes.

AUTOMOTIVE: Hexagon Ramps Up Competitive Cloud-Based ADAS Development Simulation
AUTOMOTIVE/Virtual Test Drive X leverages HYPERSCALE COMPUTING and AUTOMATION in the cloud for validation of SOFTWARE QUALITY and FUNCTION. The concept of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) is putting heavy pressure on automotive development teams to deliver increasingly capable solutions.
