ZEISS Group Optimizes Service and Field Service With PTC Solution ”Asset 360 for Salesforce”

SERVICEMAX a PERFECT HIT for PTC. When the PLM developer PTC bought ServiceMax for 1.46 billion dollars at the turn of the year 2022-23, there were several good reasons. But above all that ServiceMax was highly competent in the field service area (FSM) and had a cloud-based, product-centric software in this area. With ServiceMax in PTC's hands and as an integral part of the software portfolio, it had a huge potential to connect and strengthen PTC's offerings around closed-loop product lifecycle management (PLM). Not least then by ServiceMax expanding the capabilities of the digital thread of product information downstream towards what we usually call EAM - Enterprise Asset Management (with among other things maintenance management) - and with its field service capacity.
These pieces are highly relevant when companies want to digitize and connect larger pieces of the business, including the PLM area. This has been of great importance in one of PTC's latest deals, which was announced this August:
The global technology company in optics and optoelectronics, ZEISS Group, is betting on PTC's "Asset 360 for Salesforces", a field service solution from ServiceMax to be implemented to optimize the company's global service and field service, increase efficiency and meet new requirements.
Clearly, ZEISS field service parts are associated with great challenges. With 43,000 employees, operations in around 50 countries, with approximately 30 production sites, 60 sales and service locations and 27 research and development locations, it’s doubtlessly a tough job. In this the Asset 360 solution and PTC technology will give ZEISS complete transparency over the entire inventory of its products in the field, including all orders and service agreements with prices and discounts, guarantees, SLAs and service history, as well as a central overview of all demonstration and rental units, returns and spare parts. Asset 360 is also available on mobile devices, such as those used by the field service.
In addition, ZEISS as part of its global transformation program has already selected Salesforce Sales, Service and Field Service Cloud. The meeting-focused functions of the solutions are now complemented and optimized by the asset-related functions of "ServiceMax Asset 360 for Salesforce", as this is built on the Salesforce platform.
"Our goal is to exceed our customers' expectations. This applies not only to our products, but also to our services, support and technical application assistance," says Ronald Fuchs, Head of Global Service Excellence at ZEISS Group. He adds: "The ServiceMax technology, with its 360-degree view of all our assets and the automation possibilities, has convinced us: It will help us meet future customer requirements efficiently and in the best possible way."

First, it is no small player PTC ServicMax can now put on the customer list. ZEISS is one of the world’s leading technology companies in the optical and optoelectronic industry. In its four divisions, Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Quality & Research, Medical Technology and Consumer Markets, the ZEISS Group last generated an annual turnover of EUR 10 billion (as of September 30, 2023).

The company develops, produces and distributes highly innovative solutions for industrial metrology and quality assurance, microscopy solutions for life sciences and materials research, as well as medical technology solutions for diagnostics and therapy in ophthalmology and microsurgery for its customers. ZEISS also stands for the world’s leading lithography optics, which are used by the chip industry to manufacture semiconductor components. ZEISS-branded products, such as eyeglass lenses, photo lenses and binoculars, are sought-after and trend-setters worldwide.

ZEISS invests 15% of its revenue in research and development work – this high level of expenditure has a long tradition at ZEISS and is also an investment in the future.

The sights set on Industry 4.0
With a portfolio focused on future growth areas such as digitization, healthcare and Industry 4.0 and a strong brand, ZEISS helps shape technological progress and advance the world of optics and related fields with its solutions. The basis for the success and the continued continuous expansion of ZEISS technology and market leadership are the continued large investments in research and development. ZEISS invests 15% of its a revenue in research and development work – this high level of expenditure has a long tradition at ZEISS and is also an investment in the future.

Among the positive effects ZEISS expects from the investment in PTC’s ServiceMax technology are opportunities to accelerate time to value, reduce warranty claims and costs due to contract leaks, and win more customers for service contracts and contract extensions. Furthermore, RMA (Return Material Authorization) and workshop processes can be automated and stock levels optimized while customer needs can be met even better.
”Due to our large, global organization with many business areas and our highly complex, innovative and sustainable products, this also presents us with challenges that ServicveMax technology can solve,” says Ronald Fuchs.
