Hexagon Strengthens Its EAM Offer: Buys Italian CAD, BIM and Visualization specialist CAD Service

The acquired Italian company’s FLAGSHIP SOFTWARE, OpenCAD, is used by half of Hexagon’s EAM Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) customers. Hexagon’s Asset Lifecycle Intelligence (ALI) division announced this week the purchase of CAD Service. The acquisition is not one of the Swedish industrial technology company’s major, but is nevertheless an important piece of the puzzle in Hexagon’s EAM solutions. The acquired unit is best known as a developer of advanced visualization tools used to integrate CAD drawings, BIM models and Reality Capture data into HxGN EAM. The latter solution is Hexagon’s software for everything from planning, procurement, installation and machine performance to maintenance, regulatory compliance, risk management and disposal of manufacturing, process industry, construction and other types of physical assets.
CAD Service, headquartered in Parma, Italy, has a team of nine employees. The company will be consolidated from now on and will operate within Hexagon’s ALI division.
“The acquisition of CAD Service is an important step for Hexagon’s Asset Lifecycle Intelligence division. With CAD Service’s expertise and advanced visualization tools, we can further enhance our EAM offerings and provide customers with more integrated and efficient tools to manage their assets. Becoming part of Hexagon is a natural progression for CAD Service as their tools have been an integral part of Hexagon’s EAM solutions for several years,” said Hexagon’s acting CEO and President Norbert Hanke.
CAD Service has had a long-standing relationship with Hexagon, signing a partnership agreement back in 2013. The flagship OpenCAD solution is already a key tool for approximately half of Hexagon’s EAM Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) customers. The acquisition will enable Hexagon to fully integrate CAD Service’s visualization capabilities into the broader solution and accelerate its development roadmap.
By leveraging CAD Service’s expertise internally, the ALI division will be able to offer more robust and comprehensive EAM solutions, meeting the growing needs of complex industries, including manufacturing, energy and transportation, as they transition to visualizing and managing their assets in an increasingly three-dimensional environment.
No purchase price was disclosed in the press release.
